Advanced programming

BPM provides advanced programming features for creating dynamic beats.

Synth engine

BPM's powerful engine provides separate synthesis controls that let you carefully shape the sound of any individual pad layer, pad, loop, or instrument. Use the filter, AHD/ADSR envelopes, drive/distortion, aux effect sends, and pitch controls to construct killer sounds.

Bank aux sends

New in BPM 1.5

Each pad bank has three auxiliary effects sends, which let you apply effects to individual pads and save the effects with the bank. This gives you the ability to construct kits that include fully-programmable and adjustable effects processing.

MIDI Learn

Tweak your sounds in realtime with external MIDI controllers. Nearly every parameter can be automated via convenient "MIDI learn" - simply right-click a control to assign a MIDI controller.

Massive 19+ GB library of sounds

BPM includes over 19 GB of drum sounds, patterns, loops and multi-sample instruments conveniently organized for quick browsing. Included is Beat Box Anthology, a comprehensive 4 GB library of sounds from 80 classic drum machines from the 1970's, 80's and 90's. This is by far the most comprehensive urban rhythm sound library currently available.

Here are a few impressive facts about BPM's extensive sound and pattern library:

New in BPM 1.5

  • Over 10,000 individual samples
  • Over 1,000 new drum and percussion loops
  • All recorded at 24-bit 96 kHz resolution
  • Mastered at Sterling Sound, NYC by top mastering engineer Chris Gehringer
  • Beat Production/Sound Design by Eric K. Roz for Black Rose Corporation

Find kits, patterns, samples, loops and instruments quickly

Access BPM's extensive sound library from the browser:

Browser

Just click a tab across the top and then browse items by stylistic category. The categories are the same across each time to make it easier to find corresponding elements for your beats. For example, if you want to find a loop that goes with a kit+pattern you've loaded from the "Machine" folder, just click the Loops tab and look in its "Machine" folder. Loops provide instruments (bass, rhythm guitar, etc.) as well as beats, so this is a quick way to add instrumentation to your beats.

Browse sounds and patterns interactively

With BPM's AutoLoad feature enabled, items you click in the browser, even files on your hard drive, load into BPM as soon as you click them. This really keeps the creative flow going because the beat never stops. AutoLoad provides several options for controlling what gets loaded, even on a pad-by-pad basis for kits. You also have the option to AutoPreview instead of loading.

Build up beats or break them down with BPM's exclusive construction kits

At the core of the BPM sound library are 200+ “construction kits” organized by stylistic categories. A construction kit is a kit+pattern for which BPM provides all the individual elements separately(samples, loop layers and the pattern by itself) organized by the same name so you can easily access the individual elements that make up the kit.

Construction kits give you a great deal of flexibility. For example, if you find a loop that you like, but you’d like to work with the individual elements separately, you can go to the loop’s corresponding Kit+Pattern for complete control over every individual element.

Here's a a construction kit (kit+pattern) called Five Billion:

Not only does BPM provide the kit separately and the pattern separately (under the same name), it also provides all the individual samples in the Sample folder, under the same name:

Construction kit samples

Each construction kit is also supplied at multiple loops, along with extra loops that include instruments, hits and other sounds. Here's the Five Billion kit+pattern playing with its associated bass and instrument loops (again, found under the same name in the Loops folder):

Notice that you could also use just the Bass Drum and Snare (BD+SD) as a loop, or even just the hit hat by itself (HH).

Load material from any UVI sound library

BPM lets you load any MOTU instrument sound from MachFive, Ethno, Electric Keys or any UVI-based MOTU instrument product. You can also load third-party UVI instrument sounds, including BPM Expander packs (coming soon) and UVI SoundCards from UVISoundSource.com.

Adding your own sounds

Of course, BPM lets you add your own sounds, loops and audio files.

Beat Box Anthology

New in BPM 1.5

A comprehensive 4 GB collection of authentic sounds from every classic, iconic drum machine that ever mattered during the 1970s, 80s, and 90s - a total of 80 legendary models.

Beat Box Anthology

80 iconic beat box legends

TR 808…Linn 9000…SP1200…RX7…HR16… Iconic rhythm machines from decades past that brought us legendary sounds that still drive today's beats. BPM puts them all at your fingertips, combined with BPM's updated 1.5 soundbanks for an unprecedented 19 GB library, by far the most extensive rhythm sound library available.

Analog, digital, and classic

Browsing samples

The eighty beat box models in this collection are divided into three categories: analog, digital, and classic. The earliest beat boxes used analog technology to produce their sounds. As technology progressed, later models gave us first-generation low-resolution sampled drum sounds. These analog and digital sounds are still pervasive in rhythm programming today. The classic category is reserved for machines that have achieved true cult status, such as the 808 and 909.

Individual samples

Samples are organized by beat box model (808, 909, etc.) and by sample type (bass drum, snare, hi hat, etc.) so you can easily find sounds from a specific instrument or browse through hundreds of possibilities, such as a complete list of all the kick drum samples, for example.

Kits, patterns, and loops

In addition to individual samples, the Beat Box Anthology library also provides hundreds of presets for kits, patterns, and even loops - all completely authentic and true to the original beat box instrument. You can faithfully recreate original factory beats from each instrument, or mix and match kits from one model with patterns from another to quickly create original hybrid beats with that classic sound.

Quality beyond reproach

Utmost care was taken in sampling the original instruments, with 24-bit 96 kHz audio quality and professional mastering of all samples at Sterling Sound in NYC.

Hardware controllers

BPM is designed to work seamlessly with your drum pad or MIDI controller of choice. Here are just a few of the many choices you have to fully customize your beat-making experience.

Pad controllers

Pad controllers

Together, BPM and a drum pad controller give you a true beat box experience. Map hardware pads to BPM's sixteen on-screen pads and you are on your way. BPM includes template files that you can load into popular pad controller models to get going quickly. Then use BPM's MIDI remote control features to map additional controls such as knobs, buttons, and sliders.

Keyboard controllers

Keyboard controllers

Program your favorite MIDI keyboard to control BPM, both from the keyboard and any knobs, buttons, and sliders it may have. Use BPM's MIDI remote control features to map everything the way you want. Your keyboard can control both BPM and other instruments in your studio or stage rig, and you can easily record bass lines and keyboard parts into BPM.

Combo controllers

Combo controllers

MIDI keyboard controllers now come in many shapes, sizes, and price points. Many products now provide both a keyboard and a set of drum pads - and perhaps even a set of faders for mixing. There are compact models that take up minimal space and larger models that give you more keys. Either way, combo controllers are an excellent way to take full advantage of BPM's many recording, mixing and arranging features.

Customized remote control

Percussion controllers

Percussion controllers also come in many varieties and can be used to bang out incredible beats in BPM. Some have a single, incredibly dynamic pad and others provide multiple pads. Depending on the product's design, you can use your hands, fingers, or even drum sticks. While not exactly a beat box-style experience, this type of controller can be invaluable tool for generating epic beats.
